On the 23rd and 24th of May the SurreySoundscapes “Listening Posts” were installed along the North Downs Way.
A huge thank you to Ali, Louise, and the whole team of volunteers that helped out over the two days.We made some recordings of the dig itself, capturing all the different textures as we dug through the different layers of limestone, flint, clay and mud. You can have a listen here:
We had a little bit of trouble with the QR codes on the boards on the day, but we noticed that they seemed to work much better in lower light conditions when the contrast between the laser pattern and the natural wood was greater. Hopefully they will work for those with scanners on their phones, but if not you can hear all recordings in the Field Recording section of the website.
Lastly, if you feel inspired by any of the sounds or texts along the trail, we have opened a new Call for Contributions section of the website. We’re aiming to publish some writings and recordings from members of the public over the coming months. Do get in touch if you have any questions.
